covid measures

Lewa Wilderness takes the welfare and health of our staff, guests and wider community very seriously. With travel changed for the time being, we have implemented a range of new policies in accordance with the recommendations and guidance from the Government of Kenya and the World Health Organization, and amend our policies whenever new requirements are published.

By each of us following these new policies, we can all safely enjoy the opportunity to travel again as well as the incredible experiences to be had on safari with Lewa Wilderness. Together, we can be part of the solution and help flatten the curve.

in this together.

ON ARRIVAL

When booking, you will be asked to share your full passport and contact details for government tracing programmes. Please bring your own mask and sanitiser to supplement our measures on the ground. On arrival, guests will be directed to a new handwashing station and temperatures will be recorded for each guest including children.

health + sanitation

New hand washing stations and hand sanitiser are available throughout the lodge. Contactless payment systems in the gift shop plus new food management styles are all implemented with your health and safety in mind.

training + quarantine

In order to create the safest possible environment for us all, our team all received intensive training to help them maintain highest possible standards in sanitation. All staff underwent a 14-day quarantine before our re-opening.

staff testing + assessments

| Daily temperature check and sign in at the Kisima gate for incoming employees |

| Lewa clinic nurse to visit the lodge once a week to check all staff members |

guest activities

  • Individual vehicles for groups (driver to wear A mask)
  • Cars sanitized after every drive
  • Hand Sanitizer available in each car
  • All activities will be done on per group basis

there will be no mixing of groups

guest dining

  • Separate dining tables for each group to avoid mixing

  • Groups can dine in their cottages, by the pool, in the garden, on the deck or in the dining room

  • Meals will be plated (no buffets available)

certification + licensing

In order to re-open we have had to comply with a host of new regulations and received a certificate (click here to view) to confirm we are safe and compliant for operation.

Additionally, we have allocated a specific room for isolation for any member of staff and guest who feels ill while with us.

food + produce

Because we grow the majority of our own food, we have good controls over provenance. Any outside suppliers will have to have received COVID certification to produce and send us food to avoid any possible transmission points.

lodge environment

Our lodge was built to take the indoors out! Guest lodgings are spaced very far apart for optimal distancing. Shared areas are all outdoors and to be used at the guest’s discretion. We ask guests to maintain a social distance from one another when doing so.

guest interactions

Staff interacting with guests will wear PPE-masks and gloves at all times.
